API Terms of Use
The agreement that governs any access to the OrionReel API. By generating an API token or sending a single request, you accept these terms in full.
Effective date: August 22, 2026
1. Acceptance & scope
These API Terms of Use (the "API Terms") are a binding agreement between you (the "Developer", "you") and OrionReel ("OrionReel", "we", "us"). They govern your access to and use of the OrionReel application programming interface, endpoints, tokens, documentation and any related tools (together, the "API"). The API Terms are in addition to, and incorporate by reference, the OrionReel Terms of Service, Community Guidelines and Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not access or use the API.
Your acceptance is binding. By generating an API token, clicking to accept, or sending any request to the API, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these API Terms in full, and that you accept all resulting legal implications and consequences — including liability for claims, disputes and lawsuits arising from your use of the API. Acceptance means you agree to our terms; if you do not accept them, you have no right to use the API.
2. Eligibility & account responsibility
You must have an OrionReel account in good standing and be legally capable of entering into a contract. You are solely responsible for all activity that occurs under your account and API token, whether or not authorized by you. If you access the API on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these API Terms.
3. Limited license
Subject to your continuous compliance with these API Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable license to access the API solely to build and operate applications that interact with your own OrionReel account and content. We reserve all rights not expressly granted. This license does not transfer any ownership of the API, the platform, our trademarks or our intellectual property.
4. API keys & security
Your API token authenticates requests as you. Keep it secret. Never embed it in client-side code, public repositories, mobile apps or any location where a third party could read it.
You are responsible for all use and all consequences of use of any request made with your token. If you believe your token has been exposed or compromised, you must rotate it immediately from your Studio settings and notify us. We may reset or revoke tokens at any time to protect the platform.
5. Rate limits & fair use
The API may enforce rate limits, quotas and request-size limits, which we may change at any time without notice. You must not exceed, circumvent or attempt to circumvent these limits, and you must not use automated means to place undue load on the platform. We may throttle, suspend or block requests that we reasonably believe threaten the stability, security or integrity of the service.
6. Acceptable use
You agree that you will not, and will not enable any third party to:
- Use the API to publish, distribute or generate content that violates the Community Guidelines, including illegal, infringing, deceptive, hateful, sexually explicit or otherwise prohibited content.
- Infringe the intellectual property, privacy, publicity or other rights of any person or entity, or upload content you do not have the rights to distribute (including music and third-party media).
- Reverse engineer, decompile, scrape beyond documented endpoints, or attempt to derive source code, models or the underlying structure of the API or platform.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the API, or breach or circumvent any authentication, rate-limiting or security measure.
- Use the API to build a product that replicates or competes with OrionReel by bulk-extracting platform data or content.
- Misrepresent the origin of content, impersonate any person, or remove, obscure or alter attribution, watermarks or citable metadata.
- Introduce malware, spam, or automated abuse, or use the API for any unlawful, fraudulent or harmful purpose.
We may update this acceptable use policy at any time to address new forms of abuse.
7. Your content & your responsibility
You are solely and fully responsible for all content, data and instructions you submit through the API and for everything your application does. You represent and warrant that you hold all rights, licenses and consents necessary for that content, and that its publication through OrionReel does not violate any law or third-party right. OrionReel does not pre-screen API content and is not responsible for it.
8. Third-party services
The platform relies on third-party providers (for example, video hosting, storage, analytics and AI/LLM systems) and interoperates with external services and crawlers. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, their availability, or how external systems, search engines or AI assistants ingest, interpret, cite or display content exposed through the API. Your use of any third-party service is at your own risk and subject to that provider's terms.
9. Service provided "as is"
THE API IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE API WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY DATA WILL BE ACCURATE OR PRESERVED. YOU USE THE API AT YOUR OWN RISK.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ORIONREEL AND ITS FOUNDERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES AND AFFILIATES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL OR BUSINESS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE API OR THESE API TERMS, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY OR ANY OTHER THEORY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE API WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO ORIONREEL FOR API ACCESS IN THE THREE (3) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100).
11. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless OrionReel and its founders, officers, employees, agents and affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your access to or use of the API; (b) your application or service; (c) any content you submit, distribute or generate through the API; (d) your violation of these API Terms or any law; or (e) your violation of any rights of a third party. This obligation survives termination of these API Terms.
12. Suspension & termination
We may suspend, limit or terminate your API access, revoke your tokens, or remove content at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these API Terms, pose a risk to the platform or other users, or for any other reason at our discretion. You may stop using the API at any time. Upon termination, the license in Section 3 ends immediately, and Sections 6 through 14 survive.
13. Changes to the API & these terms
We may modify, add, deprecate or remove any part of the API at any time, and we may update these API Terms. Material changes take effect when we post the updated terms with a new effective date. Your continued use of the API after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. It is your responsibility to review these API Terms periodically.
14. Governing law & disputes
These API Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. You agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to the API or these API Terms will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Connecticut, United States, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. If any provision of these API Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
